What is Movember?
With the arrival of Movember you might have noticed an increase in facial hair on your social media timelines recently, and what better day to talk about men’s health than #InternationalMensDay, November 19th?
But what is Movember all about? Since the charity’s inception in 2003, it has funded over 1,320 men’s health projects all over the globe. From providing mental health and wellbeing training to construction workers in the north of England, to supporting GBTQ+ men as they become fathers, Movember supports the men in our lives to be their happiest, healthiest selves.
Research suggests that men are less likely to visit the doctor than women, have a lower life expectancy and are also far more likely to die by suicide which is, tragically, the leading cause of death in men under the age of 35. As well as funding initiatives to get men talking about their mental health to boost suicide prevention, Movember also funds research into treatments for cancers that primarily affect men.
Are you growing a moustache this Movember? Are you talking to your male friends about their health, both mental and physical? For more ideas on how to support the men in your life, or to donate to the important work that Movember does, visit their website at https://uk.movember.com
