Transform Your PowerPoint Presentations
Published 27 August, 2024
Think PowerPoint is all cheesy transitions and ugly text boxes? Think again!

We all remember the bad old days of stilted PowerPoint presentations, but don’t underestimate just how far this program has come. With a bit of know-how, you can take full advantage of PowerPoint’s more advanced features to create a slick, professional presentation that really wows your audience.
Using animations and transitions can help to control the pace of your presentation, as well as breaking down your information into more digestible pieces and enhancing your storytelling, but using them badly could make sure your presentation is remembered for all the wrong reasons.
Fortunately, our resident PowerPoint expert Adam is here to give you his top tips:
1. The golden rule when using animations is: less is more! Whereas using them sparingly can enhance your presentation, using too many animations - or using them in inappropriate places - risks undermining your message and distracting your audience. Not to mention making your presentation look amateurish and dated.
2. Make sure your animations match the mood of the moment. Save the boldest transitions for your most show-stopping moments, and consider using more subtle animations for other purposes, such as gradually revealing information. Consider your audience’s expectations, too. A marketing pitch might require a more dynamic presentation than a medical report.
3. As well as using animations and transitions to enhance your presentation, don’t overlook the use of video animations and GIFs, too. PowerPoint supports all of these formats. Just be sure to maintain a consistent look throughout your presentation.
4. Watch your file size. With complex animations, including high resolution images and videos, comes an equally hefty file size. This can potentially cause issues when sharing your file, loading it or running it on older systems that haven’t been updated. Fortunately, if you stick with the golden rule then you should be alright!
There are many other considerations that go into making a truly excellent PowerPoint presentation, of course, but that’s what our experts are here for!
